{"id":1692,"date":"2022-10-07T15:30:34","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T15:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lehmanandasstg.wpengine.com\/?p=1692"},"modified":"2022-10-07T15:31:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T15:31:43","slug":"a-search-for-wells-successor-is-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lehmanandasstg.wpengine.com\/a-search-for-wells-successor-is-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"A search for Wells’ successor is underway."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>Tullos Wells plans to step down as <span style='\"font-weight:'>managing director of the Kronkosky <span style='\"font-weight:'>Charitable Foundation by the end of <span style='\"font-weight:'>this year.<br>\nHe&#8217;s led the noted <span style='\"font-weight:'>philanthropic group since 2014. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>Filling that void won’t be easy, given <span style='\"font-weight:'>the impact Wells has had on the <span style='\"font-weight:'>organization and on San Antonio from <span style='\"font-weight:'>a business, civic and charitable standpoint.<br>\n<span style='\"font-weight:'><br>\nDavid Bader of Bank of America, which is a trustee of the foundation and has management responsibility for its operations and the investment of its assets, said Wells has provided \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>Tullos Wells, managing director of The Kronkosky Charitable <span style='\"font-weight:'>Foundation, was among the leaders who stepped up to boost Covid-19 testing in the region in the height of the pandemic. <span style='\"font-weight:'>the organization “bold and visionary leadership.” <span style='\"font-weight:'>This isn’t about retirement for Wells. It’s more of an occupational shift — in some ways back to a more familiar and active role with <span style='\"font-weight:'>the law firm Bracewell &amp; Giuliani LLP, where he has been a senior partner since 1999. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>“I&#8217;m going to get back to my law firm and spend some time with them and some other projects through folks I&#8217;ve worked with for a long time,” Wells told me. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>The Kronkosky Foundation was established through a trust agreement in 1991, receiving $295 million in principal funding as a distribution from the estate of Albert Kronkosky Jr. in 1997.  <span style='\"font-weight:'>Since its inception, the foundation has provided more than $325 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and programs in Bandera, Bexar, Comal and Kendall counties. It currently has more than $400 million in assets. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>“When you have that much money, it&#8217;s kind of hard to not use it in good ways,” Wells said. “That’s what I think we&#8217;ve done.” \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>In September 2020, it was Wells, along with former Rackspace Technology Inc. Chairman Graham Weston and Tobin Endowment Chairman J. Bruce Bugg, who co-founded Community Labs, an Alamo City nonprofit formed to improve and expand Covid-19 testing in the region during the initial height of the pandemic. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>“I&#8217;m going to be around San Antonio. I&#8217;ll still be helping with Community Labs and some other things,” Wells said. “I’ll be in the neighborhood.” \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>Wells, who had previously served as general counsel to the San Antonio Spurs and to a number of privately held and publicly traded companies, has also served as honorary consul to Canada in San Antonio since 2005. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>A search for Wells’ successor is underway. Lehman Associates of Austin is leading that search, but Wells said he will have a role in the process. Wells will also remain with the foundation as an advisor and resource until his successor has transitioned into the leadership role. \n<p><span style='\"font-weight:'>“We just started the search and are very bullish about the folks we&#8217;ve initially spoken to and the caliber of people who are interested,” he said.\n<p><b> Scott Bailey \n</b>
